Some reminders and new assignments

Hey Gang,

Hope your work experiences are going well and giving you growth and personal satisfaction. Its hard to believe we are over one fourth of the way through this school year.

Just a reminder:

  • The $20.00 co-op fee is now due. Checks can be written to Keystone Central School District or KCSD. You'll receive a receipt. Bring your check or cash to the guidance office.
  • Remember to turn in your signed time sheets.
  • Stop by to pick up your critiqued assignments and checked time sheets.
Your assignments for second marking period and due dates are:
  • Your resume- this is due in my office or through attached email by December 16, 2010
This will give me time to critique it and give it back to you to make improvements before I finalize your grade for it. I know some of you have expressed concern about this assignment. Revisit the "work experience portfolio" power point and come in to see me. As always, I am available as a resource for you. If I'm not in my office, leave me a message and I'll get back to you. This assignment is worth- 100 points.

  • Your cover letter- this is due by January 12, 2010.
This is not on the power point, but I have information in my office for you. Stop by and pick up this information. The main purpose for a cover letter is to acquaint the prospective employer with your unique talents, experiences, skills and to request an interview to discuss employment possibilities. The cover letter should highlight your resume. When turning in a resume to an employer your submit your cover letter at the same time.
This assignment is worth- 50 points.

Remember to check this blog weekly.

Hope you are enjoying this beautiful November weather.

Welcome to Cooperative Education (co-op) 2010-11

Hey gang,

Welcome to our blog.

Hope each of you are enjoying your work experience so far.

This blog will be our main source of information and assignments for the Co-op class.

A few details to work out:
  • Reminder: Time sheets are to be turned in to me every two weeks signed by your supervisor and yourself.
  • Make sure you keep up with your academic studies and keep good attendance. If you fall behind in your courses, you may have to stay in school until you have caught up on your work and your teachers give you permission to return to co-op. I'll contact you if I see you are falling behind on your subjects or missing school. Remember when you are absent from school, whether it be due to illness or suspension, you have to call your employer and me, 748-6584 ext. 4304 first thing in the morning. When absent from school you cannot attend work that day. Doctors excuses are the exception to the rule.
  • The $20.00 co-op fee is due for those of you who started co-op prior to October 1st. Checks can be written to Keystone Central School District or KCSD. You'll receive a receipt. Bring your check or cash to the guidance office.
Time for your first assignment:

To help you better understand how to create "Your Work Experience Portfolio" here is a power point for your review (Just click on it):

http://www.slideboom.com/presentations/32636/Your-Work-Experience-Portfolio-PPT

Send or turn in the five review questions at the end of the power point to my office by
10/27/10.
Your "Letter to the reader" and "Narrative" components of the "Work Experience Portfolio" will be due by 11/03/10.

After completing this first blog assignment, give your honest opinion of what you think of doing it? You are to post at least one entry about the topic.

Understand a few guidelines as you participate in this discussion:

Everything you write is open for the public to read.

No profanity or disrespecting comments or personal attacks will be tolerated.

Have fun with this and try your best.

If you are having difficulty completing an assignment, visit me in my office for some support. I try to be in my office periods 1, 2, 3, 4 and Wildcat. Also, I am here by 7:50 AM. You can stop in before 1st period.

As always, come see me, if you need help.

Have a great weekend!
